Compassionate and Understanding Anxiety Counseling

Feeling anxious is a necessary survival response, alerting the body to potential danger in the environment. However, the feelings associated with anxiety can often become unbearable. Whether it's chronic worrying or panic attacks, it can limit any part of a person’s life. It may stop you going to college, completing an exam (which you worked hard for), finding a job and can even rupture relationships. In short, it can be incapacitating.

When we face a stressful situation, it can set off our brains in built 'alarm system', telling us something is wrong. You may start by feeling a little anxious, but if the symptoms get worse or continue to stay with you it might be time to get some help.

Some symptoms you may be suffering with:

  • Feeling nervous, on edge or panicky all the time
  • feeling overwhelmed or full of dread
  • Feeling angry or out of control
  • Trouble sleeping, feeling tired or difficulty concentrating
  • Dry mouth, feeling faint, trembling or wobbly legs
  • Getting very hot or sweating more than usual
  • Heart beating fast or thinking you are having a heart attack
  • Stomach cramps/diarrhea or more frequent trips to the toilet
  • Experiencing flashbacks to traumatic memories
  • Escalating panic or feeling paralysed by fear

In our anxiety counseling, we can make sense of what triggers your anxiety, challenge the basic assumptions that form your thoughts and feelings and work towards living a life that feels more comfortable for you. Please contact me for more details.
